Honoring Veterans and Kicking Off the Holidays in Boone County

October 26, 2025 | by Leigh Ann Akard

This November, Boone County comes together to celebrate gratitude, community, and the start of the holiday season. Veterans Day is a special time to recognize the brave men and women who have served our country. Throughout the county, street banners honor local veterans and loved ones, offering a visible thank-you for their sacrifices and service.

The holiday fun starts early with Smashing Pumpkins in Zionsville on November 8, a playful, hands-on fall activity for families. The Whitestown Winter Market kicks off November 15 at the Whitestown Municipal Complex from 9 a.m. to noon, featuring local vendors, handmade goods, and seasonal treats.

Thanksgiving is a highlight with the Gravy Chase on Thursday, November 27, the annual run/walk benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Boone County. Participants can run, walk, or stroll through courses in Zionsville Main Street and Downtown Lebanon, with costumes and turkey hats encouraged! All proceeds support programs that empower local youth through academics, healthy lifestyles, and character development.

Kick off your holiday shopping with Small Business Weekend (November 28-30). Zionsville invites residents and visitors to shop local and support small businesses, with free Chamber tote bags while supplies last. Downtown Lebanon brings back its Small Business Saturday Ornament Stroll on November 29, now in its fifth year. Participants can pick up a reusable shopping tote, stroll map, and punch card at the Heart of Lebanon office (101 W. Main Street), visit downtown stops to collect ornaments, enjoy special offers, and turn in their punch card for a chance to win a downtown Christmas prize pack. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged!

And of course, the season wouldn’t be complete without Christmas in the Village, featuring the annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting in Zionsville on Saturday, November 29. The parade begins at 5:00 PM, followed by the tree lighting at Pine & Main Streets. Santa will be available for selfies until 8:00 PM, making it a festive celebration for the whole family.

This November, Boone County is buzzing with community spirit, holiday fun, and opportunities to support local businesses. Whether honoring veterans, celebrating youth programs, or exploring festive events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
