The Story of the 3rd Place Burger

A few years ago, Brad Thomas, family-owner of Jawbone BBQ in Advance, entered a BBQ cooking competition. This was long before opening Jawbone in Advance. He spent months working with friends and family to come up with the perfect recipe to enter into the contest. They tried countless combinations to find the prefect one that would be contest entry worthy.

Competition was tough in the contest. Many reputable restaurants were entered into the contest and the judges included some professional food judges. The day of the contest was a really big deal, with videos and photos being taken during preparation of their entry.

Winning third place was a big deal considering they were competing with against some of their favorite restaurants and admired chefs. Winning third place became a life altering moment for him when it made him question, “why haven’t I tried to make all of our food better?”. There are a lot of places with great BBQ out there, but this made him wonder what else he could make better.

Since opening Jawbone BBQ in 2019 with his family, they have worked diligently to make the entire menu “better”. Everything on the menu has a story. Like his mother’s pulled chicken recipe that has been a family favorite since 1981 is one you don’t want to miss. Actually, the entire team has family favorite recipes on the menu.

Be sure to stop in to try the “3rd Place Burger” for yourself and come back to try the rest of the menu!
