Thorntown Heritage Museum

A historic home on Thorntown’s Main Street serves as a time capsule of history. The home built between 1863 and 1867 is a part of the town’s original plat. Started by the Society for the Preservation of Our Indian Heritage in 1977, the Thorntown Heritage Museum is home to pieces donated by Thorntown families showing the history of our community’s servicemembers, businesses, schools and sports teams, religious and fraternal organizations and our Miami Indian Heritage. Now operated by the Sugar Creek Historical Society, the museum is an educational service of the Thorntown Public Library offering free historical programming, community events and a space to preserve Thorntown history. Tours are always free at Thorntown Heritage Museum and are available year-round by appointment. Summer open hours are Saturdays from Memorial Day to the last day of the Festival of the Turning Leaves (September). You may request a tour during the off season by contacting the library (765-436-7348) to speak with Kirsten, the Museum Coordinator. Photos submitted by Thorntown Heritage Museum
